Yule Part 2: The Wild Hunt
December 23, 2014
We talked a lot in our last broadcast about the positive things that this season represents, and the fellowship and Frith that this time of year brought about both for our ancestors and can for us today if we're willing. One cannot talk about the positive aspects of this season and the thinness of the veil between the worlds without bringing up some of the negative aspects of the season as well. Many people like to just emphasize the positive but without looking at both sides of the coin the pictures is incomplete, and an outright lie to the masses of humanity as far as I'm concerned.

The Wild Hunt is one of those negative aspects particularly prevalent at this time of year because of the thinness of the veil. There are other things as well but that is not the focus of this particular broadcast. The Wild Hunt is a story that is told throughout all of Europe, as well as in different terms throughout many cultures of the world. It has many different names, but the basic story line is the same. A band of furious ghost warriors led by various different gods or goddesses (usually Woden) hunting supernatural beings. When you take a look at the legend of the Wild Hunt you begin to see the importance of the connection to the ancestors, the Disir in particular, the time spent indoors in fellowship (aside from just the cold weather) as well as the celebrations that are held on the three most holy days of the 12 days in Yule.
Find out why this was such a dreaded event!
